Our media landscape is in turmoil, but not for the reasons we might think. A struggle to keep the lights on, the need for blazing fast writing to keep up with the speed of the internet, and an increasing desire for entertainment from readers and viewers are the three main factors contributing to our broken media landscape today. Knowing and understanding these problems can help us understand where and how the media creates havoc in our lives and how we can respond to it.
Our media environment throws more information, stories, and events than our minds can possibly follow in a healthy way. Instead of passively responding to whatever the media throws our way, we can glorify God by actively choosing to pay attention to the stories, events, or issues that truly impact our lives and our ability to love our neighbors well.
Our technology and media habits can leave us confused, disoriented, and distracted if we do not examine those habits. Building good habits is difficult, but we cannot love the Lord and love our neighbors without building good habits that lead us to do these things well.
